Most kids products aren't as safe as you think
The risks are real
FDA testing found asbestos in talc-based makeup, including a children’s makeup set that was later recalled. Some preservatives release formaldehyde, a known skin allergen. Researchers have also found endocrine-disrupting chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products.
Promises are not proof
“Natural.” “Clean.” “Non-toxic.” None of these words is defined by U.S. cosmetics law. Products that carry them can still contain ingredients we won’t accept, which is why our selection is intentionally smaller. We’d rather turn a product away than lower our standards.
What the label leaves out
Vague terms like "fragrance" or trade-secret exemptions can legally hide ingredients, including potential allergens. Parents deserve enough information to make an informed choice. That means knowing what’s in a formula, including the ingredients behind its scent or flavor.
The toy aisle isn’t a safety seal
The play is pretend. The skin exposure is real. Play makeup sits next to puzzles and dolls, but it goes on your child’s face, lips, and hands. The FDA doesn’t review its formula before it’s sold, and a toy-safety claim covers hazards like small parts, not the ingredients.
