Frequently Asked Questions
Thoughtful answers to help you choose safer, age-appropriate beauty and personal care.
Ingredient Standards
Our products are meticulously selected to meet the highest safety standards, steering clear of any harmful or questionable chemicals. We prioritize natural or non-toxic ingredients, ensuring they're gentle on young skin. Adhering to the Credo Clean Standard, we follow The Dirty List™ — the industry's most rigorous guideline, which bans or limits over 2700 chemicals due to safety and sustainability concerns. This commitment from our brand partners guarantees that you receive safer, superior products.
But we don’t stop there. We go above and beyond the Credo Clean Standard because children’s delicate skin is more absorbent than adult skin, making ingredient safety even more critical. While Credo encourages the use of natural ingredients over petroleum-derived ones, they do not prohibit all of them. That’s why we take it a step further and ban petroleum-derived colorants (dyes and pigments) in our products to ensure the cleanest and safest formulations possible.
Yes, we believe in full transparency. Every product page includes a detailed ingredient list so you can make informed choices for your child. You can also visit our Ingredient Glossary to learn what each ingredient is made of and its purpose.
We create scent by choosing products that use fragrance intentionally, without artificial fragrance or undisclosed synthetic perfume blends.
Depending on the product, scent may come from essential oils, natural aromatic extracts, distillates, or natural fragrance blends dispersed in a skin-compatible carrier, such as a plant-derived oil or other cosmetic-grade solvent.
We do not assume that “natural fragrance” automatically means gentler. Essential oils and natural fragrance materials are concentrated aromatic compounds, and some contain naturally occurring fragrance allergens. That is why we review fragrance type, concentration, product format, intended age range, and allergen considerations when evaluating products.
We also prioritize fragrance-free options when possible, especially for younger children, sensitive skin, and daily-use products.
We create color by choosing products that use mineral-based pigments and other approved cosmetic colorants instead of synthetic dyes like FD&C colors or lake dyes.
Many of the colors in the products we carry come from mineral pigments such as iron oxides, titanium dioxide, mica, and ultramarines. These ingredients can create soft, wearable color, shimmer, and coverage without relying on synthetic petroleum-derived dyes.
Because mineral ingredients come from the earth, sourcing and testing matter. That is why we review ingredient documentation and look for brand partners that use cosmetic-grade pigments and provide safety documentation, including testing for trace impurities when relevant.
Iron oxides are approved cosmetic colorants and longstanding mineral pigments used to create shades such as red, yellow, brown, and black. On ingredient labels, they may appear as CI 77491, CI 77492, and CI 77499.
Iron oxides help create stable, wearable shades without synthetic dyes and are commonly used in clean color cosmetics for soft pinks, peaches, browns, and neutral tones.
Because mineral pigments can contain naturally occurring trace impurities if they are not properly sourced, we require cosmetic-grade pigments and documentation from our brand partners, including Certificates of Analysis when relevant. Our approach is informed by stricter cosmetic and clean beauty frameworks, including European Union cosmetic standards and the Credo Clean Standard.
Titanium dioxide, also listed as CI 77891, is an approved cosmetic colorant and mineral-based white pigment used to add opacity, brightness, softness, and color payoff.
The concern people often hear about with titanium dioxide is related to inhalation of very fine airborne particles, especially nanoparticles or dust in occupational settings. That type of concern involves chronic, repeated exposure to fine particles that can be breathed deep into the lungs, such as in industrial manufacturing. It does not mean normal use of a pressed eyeshadow, cream, balm, or lip gloss on the skin.
The titanium dioxide used in our brand partners’ products is non-nano, meaning the particles are larger than 100 nanometers. We allow non-nano titanium dioxide in appropriate product formats, such as pressed powders, creams, balms, and glosses, when it meets cosmetic-grade purity specifications and our ingredient standards.
Product format matters. Titanium dioxide in a pressed eyeshadow is not airborne in the same way as a loose powder or spray. Titanium dioxide in a lip gloss is also different because glosses are not inhaled; the more realistic exposure is incidental trace ingestion from normal lip product use. Our brand partners formulate lip products with ingredients intended to be non-toxic and appropriate for incidental ingestion in small amounts.
Mica is a mineral used in cosmetics to create shimmer, glow, and a light-reflecting finish.
We require mica in the products we carry to be ethically or responsibly sourced through brand partners that provide sourcing transparency and safety documentation. This matters because naturally mined mica has known labor and sourcing concerns in parts of the global supply chain.
Mica can be naturally mined or synthetically made. Both can be appropriate for cosmetics when they are cosmetic grade, properly sourced, and used in the right product format.
Some ingredients in the products we carry are natural, some are naturally derived, and some are carefully processed, purified, mineral-based, or nature-identical ingredients chosen for safety, stability, and performance.
We do not believe “natural” automatically means safer, and we do not believe “synthetic” automatically means unsafe. What matters most is whether an ingredient is appropriate for children’s products, used at a safe level, properly sourced, and free from ingredients we do not allow.
Our focus is clean, kid-conscious beauty and personal care: products made without synthetic dyes, carmine, talc, parabens, phthalates, artificial fragrance, and other ingredients that do not meet our standards.

Product Information
You can use our Shop by Age menu as a helpful starting point, including Ages 3–5, Ages 6–8, Ages 9–12, and Tween Starter Picks. Because every child is different, we also recommend reviewing each product’s ingredients, shades, packaging, and use case to choose what feels right for your family.
Our age groups are designed as helpful shopping guides based on developmental stage, typical use, product format, ingredient considerations, and how children tend to explore beauty at different ages.
We consider factors like ease of use, mess level, color payoff, removal, skin sensitivity, packaging, and whether a product is better suited for pretend play, creative expression, beginner routines, or more independent tween use.
Every child is different, so age groups are not strict rules. They are meant to help parents choose products that feel appropriate for their child’s age, maturity, interests, and comfort level.
We vet every product individually, not just the brand as a whole. A brand may make some products that meet our ingredient and safety standards, while other products from the same brand may include ingredients we don’t allow, such as carmine or other ingredients on our prohibited list.
So when you see a brand on Popsicle Beauty Club, it means the specific products we carry from that brand have met our standards. It does not mean every product that brand makes automatically qualifies.
While many brands in the clean beauty space market themselves as non-toxic or safe for kids, we’ve found that not all live up to those claims. Some still include ingredients like FD&C dyes and lake pigments—colorants that are derived from petroleum and may be contaminated with heavy metals. These synthetic dyes are known to pose health risks, especially when ingested or absorbed through the skin, which is especially concerning for children with developing bodies and thinner skin barriers.
At Popsicle Beauty Club, we go beyond the marketing claims. We hand-select every product with ingredient integrity in mind—prioritizing natural, plant-based, and food-grade alternatives wherever possible. If a brand doesn’t meet our high standards for safety and transparency, we don’t carry it—no matter how popular it may be. Your child’s health and happiness are our top priority.

Health and Safety
Absolutely. Our products comply with all applicable safety standards and regulations for children’s cosmetics and play makeup.
We ensure every formula aligns with the FDA’s Voluntary Cosmetic Registration Program (VCRP) and adheres to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines for cosmetics.
For toys and accessories, we also ensure compliance with CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) standards, including the Federal Hazardous Substances Act (FHSA), which covers labeling and ingredient safety for products marketed to children.
Our products are cosmetic-grade, not toy-grade. While many kids’ play makeup sets are classified as toys—and avoid cosmetic safety standards—our brand partners align with cosmetic-grade manufacturing and ingredient safety protocols.
But we go further, exceeding industry requirements with in-house medical and toxicological reviews, prioritizing sensitive skin, non-toxic formulations, and full ingredient transparency.
Our commitment is to make playtime safe, with products held to personal care standards—not toy store novelties.
Yes. Every product we carry is formulated to be gentle on sensitive skin and most of our products are hypoallergenic. Since every child is unique, we recommend a quick patch test on the inner elbow before use.
If your child has known allergens, we recommend reviewing the full ingredient list on the product page before purchasing.
Every formula is reviewed by our in-house allergist to ensure it meets the highest safety standards. While not every product is classified as hypoallergenic, each is formulated to be gentle on sensitive skin. Since every child is unique, we recommend a quick patch test on the inner elbow before use. Your child’s safety and comfort are always our top priority.
While our products are generally formulated and categorized for girls ages 3+, please be aware that certain items may come with specific age recommendations detailed in the product descriptions on our website and/or on the product packaging.
For children with any specific serious conditions that require careful consideration, we advise consulting with a healthcare provider to ensure the product is appropriate for your child's needs.
Sustainability and Ethics
Yes—and then some! While we proudly prioritize brands that follow cruelty-free practices (meaning no animal testing at any stage), we go beyond typical standards like Leaping Bunny, which often focus only on testing and not on how ingredients are sourced.
Many so-called "cruelty-free" products still contain ingredients like carmine—a red pigment made from crushed beetles. At Popsicle Beauty Club, we do not carry products that contain carmine, because animal-derived ingredients that are not humanely sourced have no place in children's makeup or personal care.
We’re committed to transparency, safety, and compassion in every product we carry.
We’re committed to ethical, compassionate sourcing in every product we carry. No animals are used in our formulations, except for bee byproducts (beeswax, honey, pollen, propolis), lanolin, and keratin.
For bee byproducts, we’re working with our brand partners to certify humane and sustainable sourcing. Similarly, for lanolin and keratin, we ensure they come from sheep unharmed and are working towards certifications that guarantee they’re raised without toxic insecticides.
Yes, we offer a wide selection of vegan products, which are free from any animal-derived ingredients. If a product is vegan, this will be clearly indicated in the product description on our website.
Absolutely. While some of our brands still use less-than-ideal packaging, we’re committed to environmental responsibility. We've launched an incentive program to encourage our partners to adopt sustainable packaging, aiming to reduce our footprint and drive industry-wide change. This is an ongoing journey, and we invite our customers and brands to join us in making a positive impact.

Product Use and Care
Please refer to the individual packaging or the product detail pages on our website for specific instructions. We advise adult supervision during product application.
Given their gentle formulation, most products are suitable for daily use. However, please adhere to the specific usage instructions provided for each item.
We recommend removing products gently with warm water, a soft washcloth, and a mild cleanser. For glitter, face gems, or longer-wear products, you may also use a gentle oil-based cleanser or a small amount of skin-safe oil to help loosen the product before washing.
Avoid scrubbing, especially around the eyes. Adult supervision is recommended for younger children, and products should always be kept away from the waterline and inside of the eyes.
Store products in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. Keep caps, lids, and containers tightly closed when not in use.
For best results, use products with clean hands or clean applicators, avoid sharing eye or lip products, and follow any storage or expiration guidance listed on the individual product packaging.

Community and Brand
Yes. Popsicle Beauty Club participates in community events, partnerships, and giving initiatives that support children and families.
One of our core initiatives is Clean for every kid™, Popsicle Beauty Club’s social impact program created to make non-toxic self-care more accessible to every child.
Through this program, we donate backpacks filled with clean beauty and personal care essentials to girls who need them most, including survivors of domestic violence, children undergoing cancer treatment, and girls in underserved communities. These are moments when dignity, cleanliness, comfort, and care matter deeply.
We believe non-toxic self-care should not be a luxury reserved for a few. Clean for every kid™ exists to help safer, healthier products reach more children — because access to clean should not depend on circumstance.

Absolutely! We're passionate about supporting small businesses, especially those founded by moms who wanted safer, better products for their own children. We proudly feature these brands on our platform and highlight where each product is made in the product descriptions, complete with a location icon for easy identification. This allows our customers to see the origin of their purchases and join us in uplifting the growth and success of mom-led small businesses around the world.
Popsicle Beauty Club is independently owned and founded by Rebecca Suissa, a mom of six who created the company after seeing how difficult it was to find beauty and personal care products made with children’s developing skin, age, and ingredient safety in mind.
We are not owned by a large beauty conglomerate. We are a small, founder-led company that reviews products individually, with a focus on clean ingredients, age-appropriate use, product format, transparency, and child-specific safety considerations.
Our product standards are also informed by medical expertise. Popsicle Beauty Club’s Medical Advisory Board includes physicians in allergy, immunology, and pediatric care who help review products for children’s skin, including potential allergens, sensitizers, irritants, and age-appropriate use.
No. Popsicle Beauty Club is for any child who enjoys color, creativity, self-care, dress-up, bath time, and everything in between.
The brand was inspired by Rebecca’s daughters and by girlhood more broadly, which is why girls are often centered in our editorial, storytelling, and product education. But our products are not limited to girls.
Our larger mission is to protect childhood from the pressure of performance beauty. We believe children should be able to explore care, color, and creativity in a way that feels safe, age-appropriate, and playful.
